| HOME | Conference Background. The National Summit for Rural Traffic Safety Culture first convened in 2009 to examine the role of driving culture in traffic safety. Because of the Summit’s overwhelming success, it has become an annual event. The second Summit on Traffic Safety Culture will be held July 11-13, 2010 in Big Sky, Montana. What can participants expect? Similar to the first Summit, we will continue to strive for increased understanding amongst traffic safety researchers, practitioners, and policy makers about the role of traffic safety culture on (1) behavioral factors that increase rural (and national) traffic crash risk; (2) attitudinal barriers to public and political acceptance of traffic safety interventions; and (3) organizational resistance to safety program change or implementation. However, the second Summit will take these goals a step further by helping the audience to see the connections between theory and practice. Attendees should come prepared to listen, learn, share and discuss not only their experiences, but those of others in both facilitated small-group discussions and larger question/answer sessions. Costs. The cost to attend the Summit is $190.00 per person (prior to June 18th). This includes an evening reception on Sunday, July 11th, as well as breakfast and lunch on both Monday, July 12th and Tuesday, July 13th. Lodging is not included in the registration fee. However, a special room block has been reserved at a discounted rate. Transportation. The Big Sky Resort is located approximately one hour from the nearest airport (Bozeman, Montana). As such, attendees will need transportation to and from the event venue. For those individuals not wishing to rent a car, a limited number of seats are being made available on an event shuttle. To take advantage of the shuttle, you must arrive on Saturday, July 10th or Sunday, July 11th and depart on Tuesday, July 13th or Wednesday, July 14th (before 5:00 pm). You must also provide your flight and contact information on the Registration Form. The cost for this shuttle is $35.00 one way or $65.00 round trip. Additional Learning Opportunities. The 8th Annual Montana Summer Institute, starting on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, brings practitioners from across the country to Big Sky Resort for a three-day, highly experiential conference. The Institute is for practitioners addressing a wide range of health and safety issues. Participants will learn about all 7 Steps of the Positive Community Norms Model which is based on the Science of the Positive framework. Visit here for more information. |
